Carsten Nicolai - Light stencils. The New York Kunsthalle, New York, USA, 1996. Curated by Martin Kunz.
< BACK
Carsten Nicolai had created a series of stencils - thin sheets of metal with cut-out shapes (such as an airplane, a star, or an eye) - that were placed in the circular windows of the Kunsthalle's main gallery. Light passed through the perforations and cast various patterns on the floor, walls and ceiling that moved and danced and faded over the course of the day.
In conjunction with the installation, Nicolai produced an edition of lithographs assembled in book form or unbound in a hand-made portfolio. (Edge 3)
