Draft for note: An expressive, figurative painter from Cologne of the generation of Baselitz am others. A great painter more in tradition of Francis Bacon and Lucian Freud, developing late Picasso. But he was politically too close to his name, very engaged as director of cologne art school and being censured in the promotion of the incoming Berlin and DDR Painters and the clan of Baselitz, Lüpertz, Immendorf and Werner Gallery, so politically tabu. When I accepted this collaboration with Klas Honnef and asked on a curators meeting in Germany who might be interested to collaborate, few colleagues threatened me and told me I would be finished and cat of I proceed with that project. I did and survived it, as well as the others did . It's difficult to swim uo stream, but one can try and sometimes it is good to maintain ones condition.
