Martin Kunz, Jean Christophe Ammann, Georges Eckert, André Meyer and Franz Zelger were the members of the Scholarly Committee that prepared this art-historical exhibition that centered on the work of the celebrated Swiss painter Robert Zünd (1826–1909), and in accord with the traditions of Kunstmuseum Luzern it took place in the summer months. In concomitance with Lucerne’s International Music Festival of 1978, on the eight-hundredth anniversary of the city’s founding, the exhibition presented works not only by Zünd, but also by artists with whom he was contemporary, all renowned as highly realistic landscape artists, and thereby aroused considerable public interest throughout the whole of Switzerland. In addition to reproducing the works, the catalogue also offers specific investigations on the part of various art historians. The catalogue thus became the first scholarly monograph to concern itself with this theme, and was replete with ample documentation and a wealth of color reproductions.
Thw catalogue's first edeition was sold out 4 weeks before end of exhibit and immediatly the 2nd edition was printed at another 10000 copies which were sold for many years, until that editio sold out too.
