Draft, based on original Abstract by EM, trslt. by GM.to be revised and edited by Claudia Steinb. and MK This catalogue presents the work of the American artist Joel Fischer, on the occasion, in 1984, of the presentation at Kunstmuseum Luzern of his first retrospective, and it offers a documentation of his particular process of creative composition, articulated through drawings and sculpture. The catalogue illustrates his sculptures (subsequent to the more conceptual and better known work that he exhibited in 1972 in Kassel at Documenta D5, curated and directed by Harald Szeemann) as well as the preparatory models that he manually created on paper recycled from previous works. Following lines and drawings already present in the texture of the paper, the artist crafted two-dimensional designs that were then reinterpreted and reproduced in the form of sculpture. This exhibition very much impressed also H Szeemann , who liked already earlier work.
