This artist’s book features an autobiographical text in prose and an original cover designed by Dieter Roth himself, and was published on the occasion of his 1980 retrospective at Kunstmuseum Luzern. The exhibition was entitled Books and Graphics (part 2) and Other Stuff and covered the period from 1971 to 1979. The booklet was an accompaniment to a full-scale catalogue published in Stuttgart by Hansjörg Mayer (Dieter Roth’s personal publisher, as well as of his friends André Thomkins and Daniel Spoerri) which in turn bore a dust jacket that the artist specifically designed for the exhibition in Lucerne. The catalogue in fact gives the details of the 1980 exhibition and offers reproductions of four hundred and nine works, ranging from graphics to true and proper books created by the artist and likewise published by Edition Hansjörg Mayer. The entirety of this material was presented in Lucerne in 1980, along, as the artist humorously put it, with “other stuff,” inclusive of musical installations and projections of films.
